THE jury in a trial of a couple accused of being involved in the death of a one-year-old has been sworn in.
Laura and Scott Castle are both facing charges relating to the death of youngster Leiland Corkill, who died in hospital on January 7 last year, the day after emergency services were called out in Barrow.
Laura Castle, 38, from Barrow, has denied the murder of Leiland, originally from Whitehaven.
Scott Castle, 35, also from Barrow, previously pleaded not guilty to causing or allowing Leiland's death.
They also deny child cruelty relating to Leiland.
A trial at Preston Crown Court is expected to last two weeks.
Members of the jury were sworn in yesterday.
The prosecution case is due to be opened today.
Following Leiland's death, Cumbria County Council confirmed the boy was looked after by the local authority and at the time was placed with adoptive parents.
