A drink-driver shunted a parked car into the road then drove home and refused to answer the door to the police.

Gill Todhunter, 41, was driving a grey Audi TT in Seaton, just after 10.30pm in Seaton on March 22.

Workington Magistrates' Court heard that Todhunter's Audi collided with a parked car and shunted a Volkswagen Polo into the road.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said the Audi then left the scene. A member of the public contacted police with the registration of the car.

Police attend Todhunter's address and located the Audi with 'substantial damage' to the front.

Ms Fee said Todhunter refused to answer the door. Police then forced their way into the house and arrested her.

A breath test revealed she had 75mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Todhunter told police: "I am so sorry. I fell out with my boyfriend and drove to give him his keys back. I shouldn't have done it but everyone makes mistakes."

Mike Pope, defending, said: "She accepted not stopping when she should have done and being over the limit at the relevant time.

"She said when she got home, in a state of panic she had a couple of glasses of wine. That wasn't the reason she crashed.

"She had been to her boyfriend's house to give him his keys back.

"She was fully compliant and explained to police what happened. There was nobody else involved. It's her first time in court."

Todhunter, of Pearson Street, Workington, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle with alcohol level above the limit and failing to stop after a road accident.

The defendant was banned from driving for 22 months, to be reduced by 22 weeks, if she completes a drink driver's rehabilitation course.

She was fined £457 and must pay £85 costs and a £46 victim surcharge.
