A DEDICATED fundraiser will mingle with royalty at a Platinum Jubilee party at Buckingham Palace.

Jordan Mattinson, from Whitehaven, has been selected to attend the Platinum Party at the Palace, which will celebrate the Queen's 70-year reign.

The 29-year-old was put forward by the Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria, after he raised £31,000 for The Great North Air Ambulance Service with clothing collections at Whitehaven RUFC and Hensingham RLFC.

During the pandemic, Jordan also secured £11,000 worth of food to feed struggling families in Copeland over Christmas after being inspired by footballer Marcus Rashford's campaign for free school meal vouchers.

There were 5,000 pairs of tickets available in a ballot for the once in a lifetime event, which will bring together the world’s biggest entertainers to perform in front of Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Jordan said: "It’s absolutely blown my mind. I’m not even sure how it came about, to be honest. I just know it came from the Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria.

"It’s absolutely unreal. I don’t think for one second I deserve to go there. Everything we’ve done has been group efforts from lads down the rugby union club and up at Hesingham too, but I couldn’t say no. It’s a once in a lifetime chance.

"Thank you very much to the Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria for the nomination. It's not something I’d have ever in a million years thought could happen!"

It has been a special year so far for Jordan, who recently celebrated becoming a dad when he and his fiancée Paige Ormond welcomed their baby daughter Emmie into the world.

The Platinum Party at the Palace will feature a range of highlights from global music stars with a full, live orchestra – to actors from film, TV and the stage telling the story and celebrating some of the most significant cultural moments from The Queen’s seven decade reign.

It will be broadcast live on the BBC on Saturday, June 4.
