THE NHS, Civil Nuclear Constabulary and TSP Engineering will be among the companies showcasing their opportunities at Lakes College’s Employer and Careers Fair later this week.

Dozens of employers have signed up to attend the fair, which will be held at the college’s Lillyhall campus on April 28, and allow people to learn about apprenticeships.

With Covid-19 restrictions eased, the fair will provide the first chance in a number of years for companies to meet potential employees in person and share their career options.

The fair will also be an opportunity to see the Lakes College campus, which includes the National College for Nuclear and Construction Skills Centre, and discover the range of full-time courses, apprenticeships, T-Levels and distance learning courses on offer.

Lakes College’s expert staff will also be on hand to offer careers advice and talk though the options available.

Chris Nattress, principal of Lakes College, said: “This is a fantastic chance to meet employers face to face and find out more about them and the opportunities they have to offer.

“You never know what a conversation may lead to so I would encourage people to make the most of this golden opportunity to speak to dozens of local companies.

“After a period where we have been unable to hold events like this due to Covid-19, it is great to be able to invite people onto our campus again where they can also see what wonderful facilities we have to offer.”

The event has also been backed by Copeland MP Trudy Harrison, who welcomed the chance to help employers address the skills gap in Cumbria.

Mrs Harrison said: “I think it’s great that we are able to hold events like this again after a challenging period due to the pandemic and I would encourage anyone looking to get a foot up on the careers ladder to go along and engage with the companies involved.

“Apprenticeships are such an important part of the careers landscape and Lakes College has amazing links with employers in the area to help people to make the most of the opportunities available.

“This is your chance to sell yourself to potential employers and make an impression, and for local companies it is an opportunity to see the strength and variety of the talent developing in the area.”
