A GRAND Lake District home has been reduced by nearly £500,000.

The 14-bedroom Nanny Brow is the most expensive property for sale in Cumbria.

It is now listed for £4.5 million, having previously been on the market for £4.95 million. 

It is situated in Clappersgate near Ambleside and even has its own private fishing on the River Brathay.

It was previously run as a B&B but is now a large family home with stunning views and period features.

According to a listing. it was built in 1903 by the architect Francis Whitwell, who having committed his idea for his perfect house in a painting, then chose the site at Clappersgate on which to build his family home.

The family were friends of writer and illustrator Beatrix Potter and regularly met with her on Loughrigg Fell.
