A charity is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its fundraising event.

The British Heart Foundation has, for 24 years, completed its Armathwaite Challenge fundraiser, and is now hoping to raise £60,000 this year for its 25th year.

The challenge, which its organiser Geoff Fisher describes as a 'little stroll', involves a 20 mile walk which starts at the Fox & Pheasant car park in Armathwaite, and heads towards Talkin Tarn in Brampton.

Geoff Fisher said: "This is the 25th anniversary of the “Armathwaite Challenge” and we are so very close in smashing through the £60,000.00 barrier this year, if you know anyone that would like to join the team this year please encourage them to have a little stroll on Sunday, September 18, to help raise funds for the British Heart Foundation, otherwise please donate towards the Armathwaite Challenge and let's raise some funds for them.

"The 20-mile starts at 8:30 am from the Fox & Pheasant carpark, Armathwaite, and heads towards Talkin Tarn, Brampton, this is when anyone wanting to join the 20 milers can join in and walk the 10 miles back to the Fox & Pheasant Armathwaite on another route.

"The route takes in some great views and the roads are much quieter than the normal A6 route.

"We have kind permission from the manager of the Fox & Pheasant to park our cars at the pub, it gives you a chance for those of you not driving to have a few drinks at the end of the walk."
