A TEAROOM in Pooley Bridge was burgled on Easter Monday (April 18).

Granny Dowbekin’s Tearoom and Teagardens had to remain closed until 11am Tuesday morning, whilst police investigated the situation.

Owner Colin Hindle said: "It's just really depressing that your whole team works really hard all weekend and then your reward is a devastating arrival when you come in on Tuesday morning.

"They ripped off a window going into our outdoor kitchen.

"Fortunately, the only things they could get their hands on was some pound coins, about £150 worth.

"Thankfully they didn't get away with much and there wasn't much damage but their was distress and disruption caused to the business whilst the police orchestrated a crime scene," he said.

Colin said the premise captured CCTV footage of three men arriving at around 1am, but that's as far as they've got with it at the moment.

This is the second time the popular tearoom has been broken into within two years, as of June 1 2021, a similar incident occurred.

"We're a very open site and it's very dark in the village at night - we're currently looking at improving our current CCTV footage," he said.

A spokesperson from Cumbria Constabulary said: "Police were called at 7.55am yesterday (April 19) following a burglary at a business in Pooley Bridge.

"It is suspected to have happened overnight last night – between 7pm on April 18 and 7.45am yesterday.

"Enquiries are continuing," they said.
