May is an exciting month for a Carlisle bookshop as they are set to play host to three famous authors.

Two of the country’s top crime writers, M W Craven and Fiona Cummins, will be in Carlisle's Bookends on May, 12 for their regular 'Crime and Wine' event in the Cakes and Ale cafe.

Carlisle-born author MW Craven, writer of the popular Washington Poe series, was in store in January for a similar event with Mari Hannah, of which he described it as "a lot of fun".

"To sell out-during January and Covid was a big deal for the bookshop, it was a great event and the audience asked a lot of great questions as well," he told the News and Star at the time.

Lucy Matthews, of Bookends, said: "I've heard Mike speak a few times now and it's impressive that he manages to keep it so fresh every time.

"I think the audience found it really interesting finding out about how the process book gets published; readers often don't usually think about the work that has to go into publishing side of things," she said.

Fiona Cummins and M W Craven will be celebrating the launch of Fiona’s fourth novel and thriller, Into The Dark, a dark and gripping crime thriller about revenge, greed, ambition and the true cost of friendship.

Similarly, the bookshop will be introducing an evening with award-winning poet, playwright, and novelist Kiran Millwood Hargrave, on May 19.
