A RENOWNED floral artist and gold medal winner at RHS Chelsea Flower Show was 'very proud' to have had his floral display showcased at the service of thanksgiving for the life of the Duke of Edinburgh.

David Ryland, who is also an Eden District Councillor, was selected to put his mark on the day with his unique 10-foot high pedestal arrangement in a signature royal coloured design at the special service which took place at Westminster Abbey on March, 29.

David said to have his work on display at such a 'momentous occasion', made him feel 'very proud' of what he's achieved.

"It was emotional watching the service, as I was thinking about what my late mother would have thought of it all.

"It is a huge honour to be chosen to create a floral display for Prince Philip's service of thanksgiving. I am plain old David. Nothing special.

"I enjoy what I do and it's wonderful someone from Cumbria can reach this level."

The Queen, William and Kate and other senior royals at the special service of thanksgiving looked onwards to David's lovingly curated designs.

The 64-year-old, from Armathwaite, said he was 'so thrilled' to have the service began with a camera shot going through his blue delphiniums - of which, he was also the only floral artist from the North West to be selected for the day.

This is not the first David has received Royal acknowledgement, having previously designed a floral demonstration outside Westminster Abbey for the Queen's 90th birthday.
