THE ORGANISERS of Solfest have named the first batch of acts who are confirmed to perform at this year’s event.

Over the four evenings, Seasick Steve, The Charlatans, Pendulum and Orbital will headline on a brand-new main stage. Popular bands Ash and The Zutons have also been included in the list.

Other than the headliners, five acts the News and Star recommend going to see include:

The Sugarhill Gang

The hip-hop trio saw their song ‘Rappers Delight’ become the first rap single to become a top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Most people will also recognise their version of ‘Apache’, which featured on an episode of Will Smith’s ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’. Now a double act following the death of Henry "Big Bank Hank" Jackson, the Harlem group will perform at the festival.

The Crazy World of Arthur Brown

Formed by lead singer Arthur Brown in 1967, the rock band are most well known for their song ‘Fire’, which reached number one in the UK and Canada and just missed out on the top spot in America due to some other song called ‘Hey Jude’. Brown still features in the group, which includes nine other members.

The Skinner Brothers

It’s hard to pinpoint The Skinner Brothers to a specific genre, as the band has an eclectic sound which draws influences from many styles including indie rock, jazz, hip-hop and punk. After touring with The Libertines, The Skinner Brothers went on to release their debut single ‘Watchu’, which has since received over 475,000 Spotify streams.

The Beatles Dub Club

Chris Arnold, known for his joyous DJ sets at festivals all over the country, will take you on a Magical Mystery Tour through reggae, ska, latin, hip hop, house, funk, dub, soul and even drum & bass takes on the wonderful music created by John, Paul, George & Ringo. On top of all this, Chris will be spinning Beatles originals, their solo work and many of the artists they inspired along the way.

The Native

The five-piece indie act from Plymouth are set to embark on a UK and European tour, supporting Bastille. Their recent single ‘Signals’ can be found on Apple Music and Spotify playlists.
