PROGRESSIVE Northumberland dairy farmer Tom Neill will join the line-up of seminar speakers at this year’s Borderway UK Dairy Expo this Friday and Saturday in Carlisle.

Tom, from Thornington Farm in north Northumberland will give practical examples of how to increase productivity and work towards net zero.

The inaugural Borderway UK Dairy Expo Seminars, hosted by H&H Land & Estates, offer visitors the opportunity to listen to the thoughts and ideas of industry experts, on important issues currently affecting the dairy sector. With so many changes within farming, those at the forefront of the industry will look in detail at the government’s current grants schemes. Well known dairy farmer Tom Neill from Thornington Farm in north Northumberland will give practical examples of how to increase productivity and work towards net zero.

‘The Challenge of Increasing Productivity & Achieving Net Zero’ – Chaired by Toby Mounsey-Heysham, Non-Executive Company Director for H&H Group Plc., this seminar will bring to the fore issues such as trading carbon credits and how farmers should be preparing for the future. Go Low Carbon Director, Ryan Park, will debate the hot topic of reaching Net Zero, and third generation dairy farmer, Tom Neill, will discuss how his own dairy farming enterprise is embracing this challenge, aligned with increasing productivity.

‘Rural Grants & Scheme Update’ – Chaired by Tim Sedgewick, Associate Director & Chartered Surveyor at H&H Land & Estates, this seminar will include speakers John Powell, Head of Agriculture Sectors Team, DEFRA, and Nick Mullins, Chartered Surveyor at H&H Land & Estates. The focus of this seminar will be on the new ELM schemes, countryside stewardship schemes and the Farming Investment Funds.

A discussion on the recent announcement regarding the Lump Sum Exit Scheme and the opportunities for retirement from agriculture will also take place.

The seminar programme will be part of a packed programme of livestock classes, Breed Society shows and demonstrations.
