IT’S National Pub Week, cheers to that.
To celebrate, CAMRA’S The Good Beer Guide app has revealed the best pubs and clubs in each town/city.
The Good Beer Guide app compiles data from over 40,000 licensed premises, over 13,000 beers and 2,000 breweries. The data is collected and maintained by CAMRA members and is powered by WhatPub, CAMRA’s online pub database.
2022 sees the Guide celebrate its 50th anniversary, and the guide completely sold out within months of publication.
Whether it be a crisp lager, a tasty ale or something a little fruitier, there are plenty of pubs with something to shout about across Carlisle.
According to the guide, the best places in the city to grab a pint are:
- Woodrow Wilson, Botchergate
- The King’s Head Inn, Fisher Street
- The Spinners Arms, Cummersdale
- The Thin White Duke, Devonshire Street
Reacting to their place in the Good Beer Guide, owner of The Spinners Arms, Alison Davis said: “We've been in the Good Beer Guide every year since we bought the Spinners in 2007. We're so pleased to have seen the drinking of real ale at the pub grow, especially since starting the Carlisle Brewing Co at the pub in 2013.
“We've always had an interest in real ale and we're really grateful for the support of our local CAMRA group and the regulars of the pub in helping develop this into the business we have today. Carlisle has a huge brewing history and it's brilliant to be able to continue that and brew and sell real ale made in Carlisle!”
Woodrow Wilson is part of the Wetherspoon family. Discussing the pub’s place in the guide, spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “We are delighted that The Woodrow Wilson is listed in the Good Beer Guide.
“The pub prides itself on serving a great selection of real ales, kept and served in first-class condition.
“In addition, the pub hosts two major beer festivals a year showcasing real ales and also supports brewers in the region as well as across the UK.
“The guide listing is a result of the dedication of staff at the pub.”
