Readers have been repsonding to a question we asked - 'Do you think Covid isolation laws should be scrapped?'.

A healthy debate into the issue ensued.

Steve Patton said: "[The] Majority of people would be sensible and isolate if they had symptoms, but as with anything there are some idiots in society that are selfish, have no respect or regard for others, and the few will spoil it for the many and we will end up with increasing numbers and another lockdown."

Nicola Sc said: "No, there is no scientific evidence to support this.

"And, how will vulnerable people be able to return to any semblance of normality when there are covid positive people in circulation and no requirement to take precautions such as face masks?

"The government should put proper support in place to ensure anyone required to isolate gets paid but instead employers will force them into the workplace.

"Simple precautions mean everyone can have a semblance of normality instead of none which causes division."

Echoing this was Janice Roberts: "No.

"I thought we were trying to stop the NHS being overwhelmed and protect vulnerable like pregnant women.

"I have more friends than ever being ill with it."

She added sarcastically: "Being vaccinated doesn’t make you super human, but I’m sure the Government knows better than WHO, and there’s no financial gain to forcing everyone back into the office."

Paul Chambers disagreed: "What is the point in having vaccinations if the ultimate aim is not to get back to normal?

"In the end it is a personal choice as to where you go or what you do."

Samantha McLear reckons we should do away with the rules: "Common sense needs to prevail, if you feel unwell stay at home (same with any illness) otherwise get on with life."

Andrew Bowman shared this sentiment: "Yes, it's not going away and we need to learn to live with it, not in fear of it."
