A WINTER wedding followed a leap year proposal for local couple Julie Harrington and Nigel Allan who live in Kirklinton, near Carlisle.

Julie, 39, an after-sales assistant manager, and Nigel, 36, a computer programmer, met on a dating app in 2014 and got engaged after Julie proposed on February 29, 2020, at the Rickerby Retreat, Carlisle, when she engraved his watch with a proposal.

They were married at Plumpton church on December 11, with a winter wonderland theme.

Julie wore a simple, elegant dress from Carol’s Bridal Boutique, Carlisle. Her hair and make-up were done by Nicola Fleming, from Studio 7.

Joe March and Matthew Irving, both Nigel’s friends from school, were best men and Mark and Philip Harrington, the bride’s brothers, and Steven Edmonson, childhood friend of the bride, were ushers.

The bride’s nephew, nine-year-old Charlie Harrington, was page boy.

Elaine Allan, Emma Harrington, Vicky March and Nicola Fleming were bridesmaids and Charlotte Harrington, the bride’s three-year-old niece, was flower girl.

The wedding flowers were supplied by John Dalton of Scaleby.

Cumbria Wedding Cars supplied a Jaguar XF as the bridal car and a Jaguar XE supplied by family members carried the bridal party.

A reception for 140 guests was held at Armathwaite Hall. The couple had two wedding cakes – a two-tier sponge cake from Cakes by Debra Warburton and a fruit cake made by the bride’s mother.

The couple’s first dance was to All You Need Is Love, The Beatles and evening entertainment at the reception was provided by Glen Anderson. The couple spent their honeymoon in Mexico.

The bride is the daughter of Colin and Rosemary Harrington, and the groom is the son of David and Margaret Allan.
