A WORKINGTON motorist has been given a ban after he pleaded guilty to careless driving.
At Carlisle's Rickergate court, Mark Thomas Richardson, 30, of Roper Terrace, Salterbeck, admitted the offence, which he committed at Corney Fell on March 2 last year.
The charge stated that he was driving a Suzuki SX4 on the road, near Waberthwaite, when "at speed" it left the road on a right-hand bend, colliding with a drystone wall and catching fire.
The defendant and both of his passengers were taken to hospital with serious injuries, the court heard.
Richardson, who originally denied wrongdoing, was fined £421, with a £42 victim surcharge and £300 costs. Magistrates imposed a discretionary 42 day disqualification.
