The Lake District is well known for being a celebrity hotspot for UK getaways, with boxer Tommy Fury and his girlfriend, Molly-Mae Hague a recent example of visitors to the area.

Fury, whose famous family are based in Lancashire, found love with his significant other on the ITV2 reality dating show ‘Love Island’. This week, contestants of the 2016 series, Alex and Olivia Bowen, have shared images on Instagram of their northern staycation.

Attached on a post featuring the couple with their two French Bulldogs, Olivia said: “Are you a city or country girl/guy? I dip in and out of the city for work and sometimes nights/days out but my mind feels so busy and unsettled when I’m there.”

Originally from Chelmsford, Essex, the 28-year-old continued: “I come home and feel like I can breathe when I see vast amounts of fields, I think I need my space! I think it’s also because I grew up in quite a remote area so that’s where I’m most comfortable and connected, it’s just what I’m used to!”

The couple met each other during the second series of the show’s revival. A late arrival to the Spanish villa, Alex coupled up with Olivia when he joined on day 20 of the competition. The two stayed together until the series finale, where they just missed out on the £50,000, finishing runners up to Nathan Massey and Cara De La Hoyde, who are also still together to this day.

Alex and Olivia have documented their relationship since leaving the show and becoming engaged a year after. The prospective bride said ‘Yes to the Dress’ in an episode of the TLC show, with the channel also commissioning the shows ‘Olivia and Alex Said Yes’ and ‘Olivia and Alex: ‘Happily Ever After’.

The getaway comes as the couple announced that they are expecting their first baby together. Both Alex and Olivia shared a series of polaroid photos this week featuring a sonogram, baby shoes and the expectant mother's baby bump.
