IT'S the first weekend of 2022 tomorrow, so we have put together a list of some of the best things to do in Allerdale over this weekend in order to start the year off right.

1 New Year's Day Meal at The Galloping Horse

The Galloping Horse, a pub and restaurant in Cockermouth, invites all those who can attend to visit their establishment for a New Year's Day meal on Saturday, January 1.

2 Football match

If sport is more your cup of tea, then why not go and see and support Allerdale's Workington AFC, as they play against Clitheroe in their home ground, Borough Park at 3pm.

3 Ben Hemmsley and Ammara at Electric Soup

If you fancy clubbing, you should visit Electric Soup in Workington on New Years Day.

4 Wainwrights

They’re all over 1,000 feet high, apart from one very special one in Allerdale – Castle Crag at the southern end of Derwentwater is the perfect mini mountain for a family walk.

5 Castle Rigg Stone Circle

There isn't much to do here, however there is a lot to see. The Castlerigg Stone Circle is perhaps the most atmospheric and dramatically sited of all British stone circles.

6 Llama riding

Alpacaly Ever After gets you close and personal with a llama on walking trips through Allerdale.

7 Derwent Pencil Museum

This Keswick museum is the home of the first pencil, and the Cumberland Pencil Company, manufacturers of Derwent pencil perfection since 1832.

8 The Puzzling Place

Home to illusions, this attraction in Keswick is fun for all ages - as long as you read all the instructions.

9 Road cycling

Allerdale has it all, being home of the Coast to Coast and Hadrian’s Cycleway. For budding Kings of the Mountains, head over the Honister or Newlands Pass.

10 Mirehouse

This is an historic house and gorgeous gardens that families will love, situated in a majestic setting between Bassenthwaite Lake and Skiddaw.
