A CARLISLE man has admitted being involved in four burglaries and also the theft of three Land Rover Defenders and a Ford Transit van.

Patrick John Young, aged 33, entered guilty pleas to a total of eight charges when he appeared at the city’s crown court.

These included four offences of burglary, having entered buildings as a trespasser, on four separate dates during 2019.

Two occurred at a National Trust property near Keswick — on April 18 and November 22 that year.

Keys to car parking machines and cash were stolen in the first raid while the second break-in at the site was with intent to steal.

A third burglary took place at UK Car and Commercials, near Carlisle, on May 15, 2019, when vehicle keys were pinched; and a fourth occurred at Dalston Aggregates, on September 22, with diesel and numberplate stolen.

Young, of Firlands, Stanwix, admitted stealing Land Rover Defenders belonging to two named individuals and also from the Lingholm estate, Keswick: respectively on February 26, 2018, and also November 22 and September 22 of 2019.

He further admitted the theft of a Ford Transit van from UK Car and Commercials on the night of the burglary at that premises.

A 45-year-old partner-in-crime, James Duncan Benson, admitted burgling Dalston Aggregates along with Young, and stealing a Land Rover from the Lingholm estate.

Young and Benson, also of Firlands, Carlisle, are due to be sentenced by Judge Simon Medland QC next month. This is due to take place in the week of January 10.

At the hearing Young will also be punished, separately, for the theft of a motorhome from the Portinscale area near Keswick during the early hours of October 9.

This was committed with another man, 20-year-old Rhys Wilkinson, of Coalfell Avenue, Carlisle. Wilkinson has admitted theft and also a charge of dangerous driving on the A19 in County Durham after the motorhome was involved in a police pursuit.

In the meantime, Young was remanded in custody by Judge Medland.
