THE fire that has been continuing for a number of weeks at Rockcliffe Industrial Estate has safely been brought to a close.
Residents are now able to freely open their windows due to reduced smoke levels and work to retrieve waste from within the structure is now complete.
A spokesperson from Cumbria Fire Service said: "Cumbria Fire and Rescue service can confirm that the incident no longer requires direct firefighting as a proactive intervention and the premises are now back in the hands of the Site Management team at North West Recycling.
"We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding whilst this incident was brought safely to a close."
The site is now set to be demolished.
