CUMBRIA County Council is inviting residents, businesses and local road users to feedback their views on a number of proposed parking restrictions in the Keswick 'back streets'.

Teams have been carrying out a review in Keswick and the surrounding area in an effort to improve safety for all road users, as well as traffic movement within the area.

Many of the proposals are designed to prevent obstructive parking that in some cases has led to bus services being cancelled.

Proposals also include making permanent the temporary one-way system on St John’s Street and the change of restrictions in Grange from seasonal to continual.

The council is preparing a separate public consultation relating to the proposed Community Parking Management Scheme in the Southey Street/Helvellyn area known locally as the ‘Back Streets.’

It is expected that this will begin in January 2022, with opportunities to speak with officers at drop-in sessions and an online consultation survey

More information on the 13 proposals on offer can be found at cumbria.gov.uk, with comments invited on the below proposals before Monday, January 3 2022.

Cllr Keith Little, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “Road safety is one of the top priorities for the county council and I am pleased that we are holding a consultation to understand the views of local people.

"Reviewing parking restrictions and analysing traffic data is an important aspect of the work of our highways teams, and the ultimate goal is to enhance road safety and reduce accidents on our roads.

"I’d urge everyone to respond to the proposals, so that we have as much information as possible when making final decisions.”
