MAGISTRATES have imposed a 20-month ban on a woman who was caught drink driving in Whitehaven town centre.

Louise Taylor, 34, of Basket Road, Whitehaven, committed the offence on November 13 as she drove a Vauxhall Corsa in Scotch Street. A breath test confirmed that she had 72mcg of alcohol in 100mls of breath. The legal limit for driving is 35mcg.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the offence when she appeared at Workington Magistrates' Court.

After hearing the details, magistrates fined her £120, with £85 costs and a £34 victim surcharge. The defendant was offered the drink driver rehabilitation course, which if completed in time will reduce her ban by 20 weeks.

There was no separate penalty for a second offence she admitted - driving the Corsa in a way other than was in accordance with her licence.
