As Christmas approaches, we’ve been looking back at all the charity appeals that kind-hearted Cumbrians have supported in years gone by.
Many of our heart-warming pictures show collections for Operation Christmas Child when children are set the task of finding items small enough to fit in a shoebox like small toys, sweets or even warm socks for children from overseas who are unlikely to receive any other gifts at Christmas.
Back in 2000, the Salvation Army and Boots joined forces to help out TV’s Richard and Judy, presenters of This Morning, who had launched an appeal to collect toys and our photo shows helpers in Carlisle collecting donations.
And in 2002, Great Corby School pupils raised £142 for NSPCC at the school’s Christmas carol service at Wetheral Parish Church.
