This week Carlisle has welcomed the Knife Angel statue to the city centre encouraging people to acknowledge knife crime.
The statue has been in various other locations across the country and serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers of knives.
Councillor Elizabeth Mallinson who helped organise the statue's arrival has spoken to us about its significance.
Mrs Mallinson said: "It is a very stunning, thought provoking, piece of structure made up of 100,000 knives. Alongside this there will be an educational programme targeted at young people as it is something we should all be very concious about at the moment.
"One thing that does concern me as we lead up to the festive period is that young people may think that it is clever to carry knives, when it isn't.
"If we in Carlisle with a joint effort from both councils can stop one crime I think we have achieved our objective. It is important that people come to see it as it's a stunning piece of architecture. I really think that the message there is don't carry a knife."
The sculpture is made up of knives collected during a police amnesty, Cumbria Constabulary hopes to host another similar one very soon.
