It wouldn’t be Christmas without a few curveballs, and the potential shortage of Christmas trees could be a disastrous one.

But, one family business have quashed the idea of any shortage.

Christmas Trees at Little Orton have been selling trees for about 10 years and all of them are grown locally.

Owner Craig Norman said: "About 16 years about we first stared planting the trees and every year we get busier and busier.

"We grow them and cut them ourselves and we also deliver them.

"Since we started we have met so many people and it is great to see them every year.

"We always ask people to share pictures of the trees when they have been decorate. It's really nice to see them in the homes.

"We have trees from five ft all the way to 15ft and they're all the same price."

At the weekend they opened and welcomed dozens of families who selected their Christmas tree.

He added: "We've had a really busy weekend and we're looking forward to seeing all the decorated trees."

After Storm Arwen hit the family were unsure how their opening weekend would go.

He said: "Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by to visit us! We had no idea what the weather was going to do to us after such an awful night, but we were pleasantly surprised by beautiful sunshine, even if it was a tad chilly! "We were delighted to see some of our regular customers and honoured that they dressed up for the occasion. We also loved some of the innovative ways our customers have of transporting our lovely trees."

It’s estimated that Britain goes through a staggering 8 to 10 million trees every Christmas time, one third of which are imported from Europe each year

The demand for Christmas trees is increasing earlier every single year – and this year, it’s higher than ever.

When looking at Google search data, it was found that ‘Christmas Trees’ reached a record high last month with over 1.1m searches nationwide, up 102 per cent compared to September searches in 2018.
