YOUR report (The Cumberland News, November 19) of the “sustained and vicious attack” on a dog revealed that its owner received a 12-month “community order” of 180 hours of unpaid work and a five-year ban on keeping animals.
This suggests the magistrates should be apprised that the maximum sentence for animal cruelty was increased from six months’ to five years’ imprisonment a year ago.
