A CARLISLE takeaway has been handed a new four-out-of-five food hygiene rating.

Sugar Press, a takeaway at 26 Botchergate, Carlisle was given the score after assessment on October 21, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

The store, which sells a variety of sweet goods ranging from cakes, crepes and waffles to milkshakes and frozen slushes, continue to receive five-star reviews from customers on their website and on social media. Customers approve of the company’s friendly staff, fast service and high-quality products.

In the food safety officer’s report, they praised the store’s hygienic food handling, saying that the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of food was of very good quality.

A spokesperson for the store said: “We had a visit from an inspector employed by the council, who took their time inspecting the store.

"We unfortunately missed out on getting five out of five for some minor issues but are very happy with the four-star award.

"We tend to make sure that our standards are of a five-star standard and will try our hardest to ensure that our next inspection results in a top mark.”

It means that of Carlisle's 82 takeaways with ratings, 52 have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.
