A hospice has launched a new room for wellbeing and yoga.

The room, which is located at Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland's Dalston branch will also be used for family support group meetings.

Rachael Polkinghorne, owner of Polkadot Interiors based in Penrith, kindly donated her interior design services to create the space.

She said: “I created the relaxation area for the staff as a small thank you for the absolutely invaluable support that Hospice at Home gave to our family when my brother and Mum were dying of cancer.

"Without the help of their amazing team we would simply not have been able to fulfil my brothers wish to die at home nor to care for Mum until it was time to go into Eden Valley Hospice.

"Losing your loved ones to cancer is such a difficult thing but Hospice at Home are among the small group of support that is available in Cumbria that makes it so much more bearable in the many ways they support you and leaves you feeling that you absolutely did your best which makes the grieving process much less painful.

"You don’t realise how much you need them until you are sadly in that position.”

A spokesperson for the hospice said: "The clinical team has worked throughout the last 20 months as referrals to the clinical services have continued, allowing patients the choice to be cared for and die at home, surrounded by their families."

Emma Pearson, Administration Assistant for clinical services, has partaken in the mindfulness sessions held in the newly refurbished room.

She said: “The wellbeing room is a beautiful, relaxing environment which is very calming and peaceful.

"The setting is perfect for an often much-needed break from daily pressures.”

All the items in the wellbeing room were donated by supporters of Hospice at Home.

The spokesperson added: "If you would like to contribute to the ongoing finishing touches, please do reach out to the fundraising team by ringing 01768 210719.
