More than 120 children have submitted pictures for a competition.

The competition is the ‘Autumn on Alston Moor’ competition, which is also an open exhibition which opens this weekend, Saturday November 27, 2021, for one week in Alston Moor.

The competitors range in age from 2 to 13.

During the exhibition, at St Augustine of Canterbury’s Church in Alston, people will be able to vote for the best picture.

Its final Saturday, on December 4, will see Cumbria’s High Sheriff David Beeby handing out prizes at a reception at the church starting at 2.30pm, to which all are invited.

Alston Landscape Art Town Initiative (ALATI) Trustee and local artist Helen Johnson said of the competition and open exhibition: "It is wonderful to see the quality of work entered by the youngsters."

Chair Kathy Reeds added: "We are delighted at the enthusiasm from all the staff at the Alston Moor Federation Schools and Alston Preschool Group who have worked hard to provide this work."

The competition is running in tandem with an open exhibition on the same theme with work from a number of local people some of whom have never exhibited before.
