Following a pandemic restriction enforced hiatus to sports which lasted two years, a road race made its return this week.

Sunday, November 21, 2021, was the day which saw the return of the Brampton to Carlisle 10 mile road race, for it's 69th event making it officially the oldest 10 mile road race in Britain.

According to RunABC North, a running news source, the Brampton to Carlisle 10 mile road race, which is officially known as the 'Wm Coulthard & Co Ltd Brampton to Carlisle 10 Mile Road Race', and is organised by Border Harriers & Athletic Club, is the oldest 10 mile road race in the United Kingdom. and the first race was completed in 1952.

The course takes the competitors from Brampton to Carlisle via the B6264 and is fast and accurately measured by a UK Athletics accredited measurer.

Previous winners include Steve Cram and Ron Hill, a well respected marathon runner.

The race started from William Howard school on Longtown Road in Brampton and finished on Eden Bridges near the Sands Centre in Carlisle with over 650 competitors taking part.
