An NHS Trust has thanked a retiring nurse for her hard work after 36 years of employment.

Community nurse Caroline Porter started her nurse training in 1985, aged 18, and worked on various wards at the old City General Hospital and then on to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle in 1997.

Her career took her to working with Brampton District Nurses and then to the Carlisle Health Care Team.

A spokesperson for North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC), said: "The District Nursing team in Carlisle Healthcare Community nursing team would like to wish Caroline Porter a very happy and well-earned retirement after 36 years of a dedicated nursing service.

"Caroline is a fantastic asset to the team; her kind and caring manner towards patients and with her wealth of experience she is in invaluable. She has many a tale to tell from her nursing career.

"We thank you for your absolute dedication to your vocation. You are an amazing nurse and will be sorely missed by staff and patients."

Caroline will "certainly not" be bored in retirement, according to her colleagues - having varied interests in sailing, shooting, allotment adventures and shopping trips thrown in.
