CARLISLE City Council has launched a grants scheme for local businesses.

As an additional support to Carlisle and its city centre through the recovery phase, a new grants programme has been set up to encourage businesses to invest in the city centre. The programme is now available for businesses to apply.

Funds of up to £2,500 - or £5,000 for particularly strong cases - are available for businesses occupying vacant space in Carlisle city centre.

The council's fund is designed to support the city centre through these challenging times, reducing vacancy rates and encouraging investment and growth.

Any start-ups beginning to trade in Carlisle or micro-businesses looking to re-locate to the city centre from outside the district will be eligible for the business grant.

The grant can be used to support capital works, such as shop frontage improvements, signage and equipment necessary for the business to operate.

The award of the grant is subject to an appraisal process. This is a discretionary grant, and the decision to award a grant is entirely at the council’s discretion.
