An APPLICATION has been submitted to extend the workshop of a car dealership.

Lloyds Motors Limited has submitted a planning application to Carlisle City Council with the intention to build a single storey extension to the rear of their existing workshop on Chandler Way.

The extension will accommodate a new smart bodyshop and workshop bays as well as new staff welfare facilities.

Unwin Jones Partnership of Cladewgate are handling the application on behalf of the applicant.

Lloyds Motors Limited sell new and used cars in Cumbria, Lancashire, Yorkshire, the North East and Scottish Borders.

In their design and access statement, Lloyds Motors said: “The single storey extension will be constructed of a steel frame in a single Monopitch configuration. It will abut a previous extension comprising valet and wash facilities. A void will be retained between this new extension and the original building to gain vehicle access.”

“The existing site entrance and customer car parking spaces will remain unchanged. There will be a small loss of compound parking space to accommodate the extension.

Their extension will take up 2015 square metres of the site’s gross existing floor space, will be constructed of a steel frame and will abut a previous extension comprising valet and wash facilities.

An application has also been submitted to convert the empty parts sales and distribution hub to a vehicle dealership with associated extensions and alterations including the building of a new valet unit.

It is proposed that the internal and external building on 50 Kingstown Broadway undergo alterations including the removal of the existing first floor.

The existing wall and cladding will be removed as will the shop fronts and brick panels.

A new first floor will be created to accommodate offices and welfare facilities.

In their design and access statement, Lloyds Motors said: "The proposal is to completely refresh the external materials including replacement cladding and shop fronts"
