A WORKINGTON headteacher has been left delighted by the achievements of a former student.

Ebony Ritchie, aged 18, has gone from the sixth form at Workington Academy to working in the Cumbria LEP office with the help of the prestigious dream placement scheme ran by the Centre for Leadership and Performance.

She said: “Dream Placement was definitely the springboard to my dream job. Without the programme I would not have been sat in front of the LEP team telling them about my ambitions, and the difficulties I faced."

Ebony Ritchie studied at the Workington Academy from year 7 and then moved into the sixth form to study Media, History and Art. Her grades were outstanding, achieving A* in Art, B in History and Distinction* in Media.

Headteacher Des Bird said: "During her time in sixth form she entered the Dream Placement competition. The Academy promote this opportunity to all sixth form students to help widen their career horizons and explore the vast variety of careers within our local area. As part of this scheme she fought off strong competition to be offered a role with Cumbria LEP during February half term.

"We are incredibly proud of Ebony and her successes so far, we believe that she will go a long way in this field due to her determination and hard work."
