WORKINGTON MP Mark Jenkinson announced that he has tested positive for coronavirus earlier this week.

Although he has had both coronavirus vaccinations he still contracted the virus and is showing mild symptoms.

We spoke to Mr Jenkinson to see how he is coping whilst he is in self isolation.

Mr Jenkinson said: "I will be continuing to isolate for over a week now and I have had relatively mild coronavirus symptoms.

"At the moment I feel as if I have a cold and I was incredibly tired for a period but this seems to be easing off now.

"It's good to see that the vaccines seem to be doing their job.

"I'm surprised that it has taken me this long to contract it but it hasn't changed my thoughts on it.

"I will continue to take sensible precautions but I won't let it limit my life."

Mr Jenkinson announced the situation earlier in this week and took to social media to inform the public.

He explained that he had taken a lateral flow test last Friday night as he regularly would and this came back as negative.

However, he was later informed on Sunday that someone that he had came into contact with had tested positive for the virus.

He then took another test that day and it came back as positive despite having no symptoms at this point.

Mr Jenkinson said that he followed regular protocol and took a PCR test, which also came back as positive, and so began his self isolation period.

He says that that anyone who has an in person appointment with him over the coming week will be contacted promptly by his office.

As an MP he is continuing to work from home where possible and is providing regular updates on social media.
