This year the flu vaccine is being offered to anyone over the age of 50 and others who are vulnerable.

It is a key way to boost your immunity over the winter months in addition to the Coronavirus vaccines.

It is vital that people get their protection from the flu like they would any other year.

Dr Colin Patterson, Lead GP at NHS North Cumbria Clinical Commissioning, said: "The public’s uptake of the flu jab was very encouraging last year so we hope to see a similar response again this year to ensure people are boosting their immunity as much as possible.

"Vaccinating against flu is really more important than ever so please look out for your invitation from your GP to a socially distanced flu clinic."

People are asked to be patient as GPs and pharmacies are working exceptionally hard at the moment.

It is worth noting that flu can have a debilitating impact especially to those who are more vulnerable to illness.

As they may develop serious complications related to flu like bronchitis or pneumonia.

The jab is also highly recommended for those who are pregnant.

Mr Patterson added: "Prevention is always our preferred option in fighting the flu virus with different versions of the flu jab being used depending on your age."
