A city council have announced a reopening date for a bridge that has been closed due to maintenance work.

Carlisle City Council said they have been advised by contractors working on their behalf that Skew Bridge in Denton Holme, Carlisle will reopen on October 14.

Until then, the council said that the pedestrian and cycle route will continue to be closed.

The City Council took to social media to announce the news, adding: "We apologise for the inconvenience.

"The works took longer than expected but are now near completion."

Contractors working on behalf of the council have been replacing the decking on the bridge, which has been closed since July 14.
