With the cold weather starting to set in, the News and Star asked readers online for what they think is the best thing to do in Carlisle on a rainy day.

October has already started to get very wet and very windy, and we saw Derwentwater and Keswick Camping and Caravan Club Site forced to have a flood warning put in place last week.

In no particular order, the ten most popular things to do on a rainy day are:

1) Just Messin’ children’s play centre on Botchergate opened this year and has been praised for keeping the young ones entertained. Cheryl Corson wrote: “Just Messin is absolutely fabulous on a day like this! Great for keeping little hands and minds occupied while the parents can have a cuppa.”

2) Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery remains open as schools are set to be closed for half term. The museum hosts several events all year round. One reader shared that she had taken her children to Tullie House where they had a great time.

3) Kay Shaw recommended that families should hop over the border and visit Bouldover Climbing Centre in Annan. The attraction holds 400 square meters of climbing space, with a purpose-built centre that caters for all ages and abilities.

4) Mike Tattersall suggests axe throwing at Lumber Lounge in Denton Holme. He said that it was: “a fun way to pass a wet afternoon or evening and learn a new skill.”

5) Total Enigma is a unique mini golf experience where the course is lit up using UV lights. Located on Hillcrest Avenue, Aston Gilpin calls it “perfect for families and friends.”

6) Aztec and Magic Castle are two soft play areas within close proximity and have been recommended by Zed Pea.

7) Joseph Lawson calls Brickstation on English Damside a “fun, mindful alternative to softplay. Enjoyable for the adults too.” The business allows customers to build and develop LEGO structures.

8) Fusion Trampoline Park on Millrace Road hosts 100 individual trampolines, a dodgeball area, climbing wall, a huge air bag, ninja warrior, slam-dunk, cardio wall challenge, AND parkour to tire its customers out!

9) Some enjoy going bowling or visiting the cinema. The city currently has a Vue on Botchergate and a Hollywood Bowl to keep people entertained.

10) Many people decide to stay at home with a film on Netflix when the bad weather arrives!
