A NEW art exhibition has opened in Carlisle.

The Chapter Exhibition takes place at the Fratry, in the grounds of Carlisle Cathedral.

It features contemporary art from 23 Cumbrian artists and is run by Carlisle Contemporary Arts (CCA).

The name comes from a new chapter in the life of the CCA, who were previously located at The Old Fire Station.

The exhibition runs from October 1 until October 13.

It is open between 10am and 4pm and entrance is free of charge.

A spokesperson from the CCA said: "This is the latest chapter in the life of Carlisle Contemporary Arts who are hosting an exhibition of works by artists and makers in the restored Fratry at the Cathedral.

"Along with the present members of the CCA there will be paintings, sculptures, jewellery pottery and installations by some of Cumbria’s renowned artists.

"Some artists are creating site specific work in keeping with the architecture of the medieval Fratry.

"The exhibition and sale is curated to enhance the beautiful building by careful placing of the artworks .

"The visitor can not only view the art but can take time to browse around the interior of this magnificent hall.

"Many of the artists will have a varied selection of reproductions, cards and books for sale.

"There is also a restaurant in the building for refreshment and relaxation."
