HIGHLIGHTING their sustainability and environmental provenance - as well as the quality of their eggs, The Lakes Free Range Egg Company has inspired top chefs and hoteliers across the county to source eggs - Laid With Love.

Owned by David and Helen Brass, The Lakes Free Range Egg Company is renowned for its sustainable credentials, producing free range and organic eggs and enhancing the environment for their hens and a more sustainable way of life. They’ve won international acclaim with a string of awards for sustainability which has not gone unnoticed by top chefs right across the Cumbrian hospitality sector, from Michelin star restaurants, Bib Gourmand pubs and hotels with AA Rosettes, to the coolest of Cumbrian cafes.

David Brass said “‘Green tourism’ and sustainability are now higher on the hospitality agenda. A recent YouGov report highlighted that in the UK, 67 percent of Generation Z’s are more likely to pay more for products that are good for the environment. They’re more likely to seek out sustainable and environmentally friendly experiences and we think hotels and chefs are embracing that too – but they won’t compromise on quality. For over quarter of a century, we have been ethically producing great quality free range eggs and enhancing the environment in which we live, it’s something we’ve always done. It’s good to see today’s younger consumers embracing that philosophy too.”

Fifty percent of the company's producers are on small family hill farms on severely disadvantaged land and are now making a viable living. It has enabled younger generations to return to the family farm.

Producers are supported by our Agricultural Team. They make regular farm visits, ensuring range enrichment is carried out and providing help and advice on flock management.

Hrishikesh Desai, Executive Head Chef at The Michelin star Gilpin Lodge started using The Lakes’ eggs as soon as the first lockdown ended. Hrishi said “I was impressed by the Lakes team who challenged us when we wanted to check the freshness. Laid With Love eggs are incredible quality and some of the best I’ve seen in my career. They are incredibly consistent and stable every week and we know exactly when and where they are laid. They are very fresh, high on flavour and we love the intense golden yolks.”
