ANOTHER incident of suspected vandalism has occurred in a West Cumbrian town over the weekend.

Whitehaven has been the victim of a vandalism attack yet again as a photograph exhibition was damaged at the town's Marina.

Because of the damage caused, the whole outdoor display has been removed to avoid any further destruction.

Gerard Richardson, an organiser of the exhibition, said: "It now means we've had 4 damaged in a few weeks.

"The other two having been written on with childish graffiti so on Sunday, I thought we needed to cut our losses and remove the rest of the open air photos from display.

"The main exhibition in the Beacon, which these images were supporting ends on Saturday anyway but we didn't want to tempt fate for the final few days."

Gerard was informed on Saturday evening that damage had been done to the photographs.

There is a small likelihood that it may have been damaged caused by the wind.

However we have been informed that it looked like the images had been kicked or cut out of place as they could be bent almost in half before they would shatter.

There have been numerous incidents of vandalism that have occurred around Whitehaven in recent months.

Gerard was only the victim of this last week when a marquee at the Whitehaven Trader's Market was destroyed which he sponsored.

Mr Richardson said: "I don't think there's any link between the various acts of vandalism as they are all so different.

"I think these are just random acts of stupidity and stupidity is not new, nor is it unique to our lovely town."

"We still plan to do more open air exhibits but we are looking at locations that may be better protected by CCTV and that may be less prone to a casual walk by act of silliness."

If you have seen any acts of vandalism occurring around the town or know anything about this you are urged to contact the Police on 101.
