Carlisle City surged into the first round of the FA Vase as Jordan Irving's hat-trick sealed a 4-1 win over Esh Winning.

Irving's treble and a Sam Atkinson strike saw Jim Nichols' side come from behind to enjoy an emphatic win.

It took them through the second round qualifying and into the first round proper for the first time in 42 years.

City went behind to Jamie McLeod's penalty early on but quickly hit back through Atkinson's header.

Irving then headed the home side into the lead before the hour mark and nodded in another with 15 minutes to go.

He then fired home his third shortly afterwards to send the Gillford Park outfit through.

Penrith also reached the first round proper with a 2-1 win at Northallerton.

Max Brown and Kingsley Grandison were on target for Dave Hewson's side.

And Cleator Moor Celtic completed a hat-trick of Cumbrian victories in the Vase as they saw off Harrogate Railway with a 3-2 win.

The three clubs get £725 in prize money.

The draw for the first round proper will be published at 1pm on Monday.
