A PRUDHOE coffee shop held a MacMillan Coffee Morning in memory of a late community stalwart.

Caffe Ginevra, on Front Street, hosted the fundraiser to remember former Prudhoe Town Councillor George McCreedy MBE.

Mr McCreedy, who died in August, had his family with him when he passed and leaves wife Judy, children and grandchildren.

He was the driver of many events in the town and dozens of tributes were left online when he died.

Sarah Eden, clerk for Prudhoe Town Council, said:"The Georges of the world do not come along very often. George was a true gentleman and an absolute legend, who will be much missed but never forgotten."

The coffee morning was organised by Ginevra's Emma Baxter and saw members of the community flock for cake and a cuppa in support of the worthy cause.

All of the money raised will go to the charity which helps people living with cancer. Raffle tickets were also available.

"It's been bigger and better than we thought it would be", said Emma.

"Thank you to everyone who came to support us, it's been mint."

George's family attended the event at the popular shop, which also has a branch at Tyneview Retail Park, Low Prudhoe.
