A procession which marked a Service of Thanksgiving for the Royal Air Force (RAF) was held on Sunday, September 19.
Wing Commander Tidmarsh, Officer Commanding RAF Spadeadam, was joined by the Mayor of Carlisle, Councillor Pamela Birks, and councillors for a procession from the Old Town Hall to the Cathedral.
At the Cathedral, they were joined by Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria, Mrs Claire Hensman, personnel from RAF Spadeadam, honoured guests, veterans, cadets and members of the public.
The occasion commemorates “the few” who took part in the Battle of Britain in 1940, staving off Hitler’s Luftwaffe to defend England against invasion.
Spadeadam said of 'the few': "They may not have been involved in the heat of battle, but without them, those who were flying could not have done their jobs so successfully."
