Maryport Town Council have announced that theu will hosting their lights switch on as usual, after an atypical celebration last year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic putting a hiatus on group events.

Covid put paid to last year’s lights switch-on, but Maryport mayor Mr Peter Kendall promised that they would be back better than ever this year.

Last year saw Imagination Parties presenting online entertainment in the afternoon, ending with a Christmas quiz, however it is hoped that this year will be more like it is usually with physical entertainment.

In a public statement, the Maryport Town Council announced: "We will be holding our lights switch on this year on Saturday 27th November.

"All activities will be outside this year for obvious reasons.

"We are looking for entertainment for our outdoor stage, this could be an individual looking to showcase themselves, a group, dancers, gymnasts, choirs, bands etc., if you are interested in performing please can you get in touch by private message or email to maryport.council@talk21.com.

"We may have space for a couple of small stalls, you would need to bring along your own gazebo or tent and must be local to Maryport.

"[We] Look forward to hearing from you all."
