VEHICLE owners are being warned to be mindful of security after a spate of van thefts in north Cumbria.

In the latest incidents, thieves struck in Penrith, stealing Ford Transit vans from two locations in the area overnight on September 14 to 15. A white Ford Transit van was stolen from Milton Street and a silver Ford Transit was taken from Wetheriggs Rise.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said that the public should check the security of their vehicles, and where possible remove tools and any other valuables from them overnight.

Police are also currently investigating the theft of a white Ford Transit van from a site near Junction 42 of the M6 Motorway, just south of Carlisle.
