A MAN from Workington has been arrested following an incident which saw armed police deployed in the town.
The 23-year-old man was arrested following police attendance in the St John’s Ward area at around 3pm on Friday.
A police spokesperson said that armed officers were deployed as a precaution, and that there were "no injuries and no perceived threat to the public".
A man was arrested on suspicion of stalking, possession of a firearm without a certificate and malicious communications. He has since been released on police bail.
Superintendent Dan St Quintin, head Cumbria Constabulary’s Public Protection Unit, said: “We take all reports of stalking incredibly seriously and would urge anyone who has been affected by stalking to contact police.
"We provide safeguarding, investigate the crimes and can refer you to specialist support services relevant to your needs.
“Support services can also be accessed independently, without any police involvement, by contacting independent charity, Victim Support.”
