A secondary school in Carlisle have awarded a student for his efforts with tickets to a Manchester United match.

Last week, Central Academy's highest performing student in Year 7, Tyler Cleough, was presented with two tickets to attend the Red Devils' game against Newcastle United on Saturday, where he watched Cristiano Ronaldo make his first appearance at the club since leaving Juventus. The Portuguese superstar managed to score twice against the Magpies much to the home crowd's delight.

Dan Markham, Principal at the school, said: “At Central, we believe in encouraging all our students. We have been particularly impressed with the start of our Year 7 students’ this academic year. The Year 7 form tutors nominated students who had the best start to the year and Tyler was lucky enough to be the student drawn out. We are very proud and fortunate to be associated with the Manchester United Foundation, and without the support our students would not benefit from these unique opportunities. I do hope Tyler had a fantastic day at Old Trafford and enjoyed seeing Ronaldo’s first game for Manchester United. As Principal, I am extremely proud of all of our students, particularly our Year 7s, who are doing really well and fitting in fantastically here at Central.”
