A NEW bus service that will serve local residents in the Workington area has hit the road.

Stagecoach has launched a brand new service in the Northside area of Workington which will provide a lifeline for members of the community.

The 53 service will operate five times a day from Monday to Saturday taking people from Trinity Drive in Northside to Workington Bus Station.

Rob Jones, Managing Director for Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire, said: “We are pleased that by working in partnership with Mark Jenkinson, Workington MP, we have been able to reinstate a service in Workington that has been a missing link in the area for some years.

“It presents an opportunity to help reduce car usage, making Workington a cleaner and greener place to live.

“We hope local residents will help to ensure its success, by taking full advantage of the service to travel into Workington and beyond.”

The service will connect residents to Workington town centre giving them access to local amenities as well as transport links that will take them further afield.

Mr Jenkinson joined Rob Jones as the 53 service launched on August 31.

Mr Jenkinson said: “I have been campaigning for a bus route to Northside since 2016. Residents on the site will undoubtedly benefit from the new bus service, making it easier to get to and from town for residents.

“I want to thank Stagecoach for introducing this new service and for their engagement. We need residents to support this service and I will be promoting it over the coming months.”

The 53 will run from Workington Bus Station to Northside at 25 past the hour from 9.25am to 1.25pm. It will run from Northside at 35 past the hour from 9.35am to 1.35pm.
