ONCE again we have been looking back through our archives with photos from some of the shows from years gone by.
The grandchildren of Jack Whiteford proudly show off one of his champion Ayrshires at Cockermouth show in 1978 and brothers Alistair and Mark Watson from Newlands, Carleton, Carlisle are pictured with a heavy horse at Dalston Show in the same year.
1967 seems to have been a bad year for farm fires with several reported in The Cumberland News including one at the Kerr’s Tower Farm, Rickerby, Carlisle and another at Alan Johnston’s Bustabeck Farm, Sebergham. Our photos show yet another damaging blaze at Raygarth Field near Croglin.
And on a happier note we have a photo of Lord Plumb, president of the NFU, opening the new Penrith auction mart. in 1987.
