He has just become Carlisle United's sixth signing of the summer - and Brad Young's unlikely to be overawed when he's thrown into first-team action.

The 18-year-old Aston Villa striker has joined the Cumbrians on a season-long loan to gain some first-team experience.

Young has already made one senior appearance for his top-flight parent club.

That came in January's FA Cup third round tie against Liverpool.

Young was among a host of youth team players promoted to the side after Villa's senior squad was hit by Covid-19.

They went down to a valiant 4-1 defeat against Jurgen Klopp's stars.

And young produced one piece of audacious skill to get the better of Reds star Xherdan Shaqiri, which is captured for posterity on YouTube here...

Young also appeared twice in the Papa John's Trophy for Villa's Under-21s last season - including an outing at Brunton Park when Carlisle beat the young top-flight prospects 3-1.

He also played a key role in Villa's FA Youth Cup-winning campaign.

The forward, who was top scorer in the Villans' youth side, earned and then scored a penalty in their 2-1 win in over Liverpool.

In a final played front of more than 4,000 fans at Villa Park, Young beat Reds keeper Harvey Davies with a very confidently-taken kick...

Here's hoping that confidence pays off when Young is in a blue shirt for the rest of 2021/22...
